Search Live Is Here: Preparing Your Business for Voice and Camera Conversations in AI Mode

Google added a new way to search. Instead of typing, people can now talk to Google and even show it their camera in real time, like a conversation.

This is called Search Live and it's already rolling out in the US.

What Search Live actually does

Think of it like a video call with Google.

  • You open your camera and point it at something
  • You talk to Google out loud, asking questions
  • Google answers back in real time, based on what it sees and hears
  • You can keep asking follow-up questions, just like a normal conversation

No typing. No scrolling through links. Just talking.

A simple example

Imagine someone points their phone at a broken kitchen tap and asks, "What's wrong with this and can I fix it myself?"

Google looks at the video, listens to the question and answers out loud, maybe even suggesting a product to buy or a nearby repair shop.

That's the shift. Search is becoming something you show and talk to, not just type into.

Why this matters for your business

If people start "showing" things to Google instead of typing keywords, your business needs to be findable in a very different way.

Here's what changes:

  • Text-only websites become less useful. If your site has no images or video, Google's camera-based search has nothing to "see" and connect to you.
  • Local businesses get a big opportunity. Someone could point their camera at a product in your store or search "repair shops near me" out loud while walking and your business needs to show up.
  • Voice answers are short and direct. Google won't read out ten options. It'll usually recommend one or two. Being the "one" matters more than ever.

What to do now, a simple checklist

  1. Add clear images and videos of your products, shop or services - Google's camera search relies on visual content
  2. Keep your Google Business Profile updated - accurate name, address, hours and photos, since voice search leans heavily on this
  3. Write answers in plain, spoken language think about how someone would ask a question out loud, not just type it
  4. Make sure your content answers questions directly, in short, clear sentences - voice answers favor content that's easy to read aloud
  5. Test it yourself. If Search Live is available to you, try asking about your own industry and see what comes up

The bigger picture

This is part of a larger shift happening across Google, search is becoming more like a conversation and less like a list of links. Search Live is just the most visible example of that, because it adds voice and camera on top of it.

The simple takeaway

You don't need to overhaul everything today. But businesses that make their visuals clear, their local information accurate and their content easy to "say out loud" will be the ones Google's new conversational search actually finds and recommends.
